Medical Guide

Here at StrayRP, we understand that medical roleplay can sometimes be confusing for some and inconvenient for others. Medical roleplay should enhance the player experience and provide another avenue of storytelling for your character. You do not have to be medically trained to participate in medical roleplay, but knowing the difference between realistic/non-realistic injuries for your character should ease some of that stress. Provided below is a guide to better help players when dealing with injuries, illness, and the overall health of their roleplay character.

While it is your choice which injuries you present to medical staff, if they are deemed too severe or unrealistic for 1889, medical staff may encourage the downed player to reconsider and revise those injuries. (i.e., Claiming a horse kick to the head is considered fatal, even in modern times. Most people would not walk away without severe, life-altering/permanent changes or even death.)

Injury Or Illness?

  • An Injury is anything that causes physical harm to your character. These can provide depth for your character and give weight to your decisions.

  • An Illness can be anything from sniffles to food poisoning. Don’t confine your character just to physical injury. Roleplayers in the doctor’s office enjoy treating all sorts of conditions, giving them a chance to roleplay. (Example: Hangovers, mild headache, colds, food poisoning, hypothermia, stomach illness, heat exhaustion, complications from untreated infection, etc.)

Imagine you’re out in the wild, hunting for game, when you’re attacked and taken down by a cougar. While you’re waiting for medical staff to find you, you’re deciding what injuries your character has, but you don’t know the difference between a cut and a laceration, so you settle for scratches instead.

It can be difficult to explore more in-depth medical roleplay, especially when you don't know what to say or how to roleplay those injuries. Do not let that discourage you from trying, though. This guide will help you navigate some of those terms and how to present them to the medical staff.

Deciding On Injuries

You’ve decided on the injury for your character, and the doctor has now shown up, getting started on treating your character’s wounds. They say your character needs suturing, and you freeze mentally. You have no idea what that is and how you should respond. Maybe in the text log, they use abbreviations that you don’t know. Below is a general overview of what you may experience during your medical roleplay.
